Happy New Year

I can’t believe that 2010 is already here! 2009 was a fabulous year. I loved watching Carter grow and develop throughout the year. He is at such a fun age! We were also blessed with a new addition to our family. I never ever in my entire life could have imgined the pure joy that children would bring into my life, and watching the two of them interact is truly amazing.

With 2010 upon us, I want to make a few changes for the new year. This is probably the first time ever I have written down my new years resolutions (nevertheless make them public). So here we go…in no particular order:

1. Spend more time with my family. What does this really mean? Limit the amount of working from home, by being more productive during my work day. While the nature of my growing career causes me to work more at times, we can all focus a little harder during the work day and limit distractions. Besides work, I am also going to limit my time at home on the computer. I haven’t quite figured out how I am ging go accomplish that one. It may take baby steps to reduce my addiction!

2. Focus on health. Before all hell broke loose at work, I was focussed on losing weight. Well, being the stress eater that I am, that completely went to the wayside. I currently have family on town, so this resolution is officially not scheduled to start until Thursday, Jan 7th. And when it starts…it’s ON!!! I will provide more details on my game plan and progress later.

3. To be more organized. Yes, that is very general, but I tend to be all or nothing when it comes to organization. Maybe I would he more successful t reaching this one if I lay out some stricter ground rules (can you tell I am stuck in the car for the next five hours with nothing better to do). Here are the problem areas I will address:
– mail/paperwork
– clothes
– toys
I am going to do what you should never do. I am going to buy things to help along the process. I have been trying to do this by using the resources at home and not wasting money on new cute storage containers. Well that’s not working. So off to buy cute storage containers it is!

4. To be a better Mom. No, probably not in the ways that you are thinking. I want to do a better job documenting these precious years. I hope that this blog helps in some ways, but I need to focus on putting together baby/picture books as well.

Since these will now be published, it will be interesting for me to look back at these throughout the year to see how I am doing. I completely understand the likelyhood of achieving and maintaining all of these is slim, but i am optimistic (yeah, me… Go figure). Here is to a great 2010!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Rolling, rolling, rolling…

My baby is on the move!  November 1st marked the new roly poly.  We were out at Memaw and Pop Pop’s when the little monkey (well, he was a monkey the day before anyway) decided to roll over.  It only took me 12 days to post about it!  He is now getting better and better and rolling, and has occasionally rolled back over.  Most of the time he just gets frustrated and starts crying.  One day I will actually post pictures when I find my camera, the cord, and actually hook the thing up to my lap top.  Until then your imagination will just have to do!

Ely's First Foods

•October 31, 2009 • Leave a Comment

We started feeding Ely the lovely rice cereal just a few weeks ago when he turned four months. Needless to say…he doesn’t like it! Who would? The first night I fed Ely, Carter (age 2 1/2) was obviously a little jealous. He had already eaten his dinner, but he wanted some “cereal” too. So what do I do? The right thing and explain that it is Ely’s food and that he already ate? No! I get him a bowl and a spoon. I was just so darn curious if he would actually eat it. I had mixed the rice cereal with one of Ely’s bottles (formula), and of course it was supper runny since it was his first time. Yuck! Carter kept saying how good it was and ate it all. Go figure!

This morning Ely was not into the cereal (who would be?). I decided to start introducing baby foods. The first jar I grabbed was pears, so pears it was. His face was just precious when he first tasted it. It has to be so sweet compared to the bottles/cereal he is used to! He ate a few bites, and we finished it off with a bottle.

I would have never imagined watching a little one experience EVERYTHING for the first time would be so exciting and interesting! Now if I can just get him to roll over the 1st time while I am actually home with him… My husband laughs at my philosophy that it hasn’t really happened unless I am home to see it. Maybe it truthfully will happen while I am watching. Yeah, I’m not holding my breath!

Shrink for Good The Finale

Well, yesterday brought to a close the challenge I was going over at The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans.  Shrink for Good has been a great inspiration for me.  I joined weight watchers the first Wednesday of the challenge and have been very motivated!  My last official weigh in was on Wednesday when I was down a total of 10.8 lbs!  I did not have a chance to weigh yesterday since I was out of town, so I was probably down a little bit more than that from the total!

I am stoked to pick out my food to donate for the 10.8 lbs.  Over the past few months I have also become a coupon diva (thank you www.southernsavers.com), so I will probably use ever expanding stockpile of recent food purchases for the donations.  I want to continue this cycle of losing weight and donating food to my local food pantry.  I know with the difficult times there are so many people who can benefit from these donations!

I am so happy to have stumbled upon The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans and look forward to participating in more challenges!

Shrink for Good Week 7

What a week!  This week has been one hell of a week!  After being on maternity leave all summer, it was hard to get back into the swing of things.  Many of you are probably not aware, but tomorrow is the end of tax season.  Most people who are not “in the business” think that the end of tax season is April 15th.  I am just here to tell you NO!  And to any of you that wait until the last minute to get your tax preparer the information…I have a few choice words for you! 🙂

So, needless to say it has been a stressful week.  How do I respond to stress?  Food and alcohol of course!  I needed to work through lunch today to get a few last minute returns done, but after having such a week…I wanted to make sure I went to my Weight Watchers meeting.  I made a pledge to myself that I would take care of myself and my family above any other responsibilities.  So off I go to WW.

I weighed in and sat down for the meeting.  I kept checking the clock and wasn’t paying attention, so I decided it was time to head back to the office and finish up those last minute returns.  Urghhh…  So…the news…I was down .4 lbs.  Normally I would be disappointed.  But I was Ok.  Afterall, a minus on the scale is a minus on the scale!

I de-stressed tonight at my new favorite restaurant.  Who doesn’t love a Mexican restaurant that has great food and $3 margaritas for Ladies on Wednesdays?  Now I just need to refocus on another good week.

Shrink for Good Week 6

Wow!!!  I am again amazed at what a great week I had.  Maybe the promise of an iPhone when I hit the 1o pound mark did the trick!  I am rationalizing such a large purchase for this goal by the fact that I can track my points at weight watchers on-line through the new phone.  Doesn’t take much, does it?

This week I am down 2.6 lbs this week for a total so far of 10.4 lbs.  Woot!  Woot!  I am stoked!  I realize that when you have such a long journey ahead, you need to break it down into small increments to celebrate.  I am now at my pre baby #2 weight.  My next goal is pre baby #1 goal.  This is only another 17 lbs.  I will keep this as my next goal and think up a new treat when I hit that goal.  Maybe not as expensive as an iPhone, but definitely something that will continue to motivate me.  Any suggestions?
